On March 15, 2025, we welcome the bass clarinetist of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra as our guest. In his recital at forma Leipzig, he will perform works for solo bass clarinet, for bass clarinet and electronics, and for solo electronics. The program includes compositions by Bernd Franke (professor of music theory and composition at the University of Leipzig), Oscar Jockel (composer and conductor), Adrian Kleinlosen, Claus-Steffen Mahnkopf (professor of composition at the University of Music and Theater in Leipzig), and Manfred Stahnke (retired professor of composition in Hamburg). The electronics will be provided by Saxon-American composer Jesse Ronneau.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available in advance starting at 10 euros plus fees. Doors open at 7 p.m. with drinks available for purchase.

Bass clarinetist Volker Hemken studied at the Hamburg University of Music with Dietrich Hahn from 1985 to 1990. At the same time, he studied bass clarinet with Harry Sparnaay at the Sweenlinck Conservatory in Amsterdam from 1989 to 1990 and completed postgraduate studies with Hans Rudolf Stalder at the Basel Academy of Music from 1990 to 1991. World premieres, recordings, and radio broadcasts are impressive testimony to his artistic productivity. His solo repertoire includes works by Pierre Boulez, Isang Yun, Matthias Pintscher, and Heiner Goebbels, among others.
